JJ, i played on Traktor 1.2 with your precious tsi file, this worked well without display support, the lights off the hot cues does not worked like it should be. Now i’ve got Traktor 1.3 en your new tsi file. Display’s works, hotcues works with lights but my computer seems to slow down, he has trouble with loading the songs (too slow) I’ve changed to your previous tsi file and the problem is solved, computer is back fast but i’ve like to work with your new tsi file. The problem is it my computer or something else? I’m from Belgium so my spelling is not so good, sorry.
Coremans. I updated my computer (intel i7 mobile quad core) and it still runs slow. It’s Traktor display support. I believe they update the title of the song to the HC4500 way to much.
You have to increase your audio latency to work. Please request proper support from NI Traktor forums.
I might be the only one having this issue, but everytime I start traktor, my EFX 3 LED is red, but only on the right player.
In fact, “Off” is Red, and “On” is yellow…
However, I’m surprised that you guys are having issues with the display…! As I said before, a basic computer like mine (MBP 2.26) can handle the display at 11.5 ms…
Can anyone with a Mac confirm this?
Guys, i simply can’t get the leds to work. I tried all different tsi, and i even built mine up from scratch and none of them worked.
i use a mac with snow leopard.
any assistance would be appreciated.
thank you.
djdreamland, you probably have Deck B or D in Advanced Effect Parameters. If Effect Button 1 or 2 is reset to its default position, it will be on.
• Effect 2 = Effect Button 1
• Effect 3 = Effect Button 2
I cannot get the jog button LED to start in Green (Scratch) when Traktor starts but the effect buttons will work… weird.
bimbashi, you might want to delete all MIDI devices in Traktor and install the default TSI in Traktor’s Denon folder. If that doesn’t get your LED’s to work, then it might be a MIDI interference. Make sure you have the latest Plug In here.
New & Current Plug In’s as of August 2009 (Sys 1006)
• Improved MIDI for MAC OS X10.5.7
• Improved USB Audio clock synchronization between HC and computer
• Added New Preset, Item #10 “Touch Init. ” (Jog Wheel Initialize )
• Added Identify Request by MIDI Command (for software developers)
Thank you,
I am new to MAC. could you please let me know the steps i have to go through to get the latest plug in or check for interference?
i already tried removing all previous mappings, and installing the default one from the traktor standard mappings. All the buttons work fine. it’s just the LEDs that don’t light up.
I appreciate all the work you’ve done so far.
thank you
bimbashi. Follow the link I posted above for the latest Plug In. You have to register your product at DenonDJ.com first before you can download the HC4500 firmware Version 1006 released August 2009.
After you unzip the firmware update download (DN-HC4500.zip) from denondj.com, their will be Upload Instruction in a PDF (Upgrade Application for MAC).
Worked!!!! thank you!!! Keep it up!!!!
On hc4500 midi mapper how do you change file from .zip to .tsi
It’s not a real zip file. Just delete .zip at the end of the file and add .tsi
Thanks J.J.,native instruments is working on a “hot fix”for traktor pro 1.2.3 on the sound and defect problem on delay effects.Hey J.J.,is the last midi mapper posted on 12/8/09 for version 1.2 right?
Yea, 12/8/09 is the last one. I’m almost done finishing it up.
HC4500 4 Decks 20091208.zip 2009 = Year, 04 =Month, 17 = Day
Where did you hear they were working on a “hot fix” to fix the latency on the sound?
I send message thru NI support and their responce was that they are in work on a “hotfix” for version 1.2.3 for sound latency.
Hey J.J. I have Traktor 1.2.3 and I wanted to know if this is the latest version of your mapper or is it the same mapper that I already have? Also I was wondering if you knew that Traktor just released 1.2.4?
I have a newer one that I haven’t posted yet.
“DN-HC4500 4 Decks 20091208″ is the latest for now.
OK. I already have that mapper for the HC-4500. Do you have a new one for the 4500 as well? Do you plan on posting it? and when?
Will you be working with the HID? (seems that it’s going to be a lot easier for you)
Thank you very much for taking so much time to do this!
where and how precisly should i download and install onto traktor-pro youre midi mapper? i”m not so good with computers…
embarrassing to ask this, but i’m new with this: where do i have to put the file ‘DN-HC4500-4-Decks-20091208.zip’ (have to change ‘zip’ into ‘tsi’ i read here)?
Do i have to delete some files in folders?
please give me a hint, i want to use traktor v.1.2.4 tomorrow with my denon if possible.
thx in advance.
@jrizzle. When I get Traktor Pro 1.2.4, it will take me a couple of days to finalize and I will post it. No date yet…
@djdreamland. Only Traktor has control over the display. Is there less latency with Traktor Pro 1.2.4?
@andy and @bonifacedj. The .tsi file can be anywhere on your computer. When you import the .tsi file, you have to point Traktor where you saved it. I will post a ‘How To’ video as soon as I get 1.2.4 and the finish the .tsi. It will also be in a real ZIP file with the PDF.
I’m busy testing the latest Serato Scratch Live and GizmoLabs new DJ software called RPM. You guys should check out the RPM demo. The DN-HC4500 is on steroids. Make sure to use my PDF with it. http://www.poweronplay.com/gizmolabs-launches-rpm/
@J.J. works! thx!
finally i can switch to traktor.
Noticed a small item. On the left player, the LED of Effect 3 is red all the time.
Oke figured it out ….only youre newest version doesn’t work here !!Don’t what how to change te zip into tsi
In Windows Explorer, hit ALT to view Tools. Then go to Folder options. View tab. Uncheck “Hide extensions for known file types”.
Then just click on the file and hit F2 or click the file again to rename it. Change .zip to .tsi
I will have a real zip file next week that you have to unzip.
okee thanks in advance , Youre the best !!
Andy.
JJ:
Can’t see any difference with the latency between 1.2.1 and 1.2.4, both are working very well at 11.5 ms with the HC’s soundcard.
However, with the new HID (14 bits “MIDI”), the controls are way easier to program, since “CC76″ is now displayed as “PLAY”.
You don’t have to write down every button, and there’s a lot more modifiers available.
djdreamland. I also see no improvement in the latency in 1.2.4. 11.5 ms is no where near a pro level low latency sound card. Every other software company that has great display support has no problems with the latency.
What I’m planning on doing is another TSI from scratch without display support. However, it’s back to programming “CC76″ instead of just “PLAY”. I have a quad processor with no other programs running in the background and I can notice the horrible sound with HC4500 display.
JJ:
I agree that 11.5 ms is way more than any other program (I have a friend running at 2.5ms total with 2 SL-1200 and an Audio8)
However, in my opinion, 11.5 ms is not THAT bad, because with all the outputs (LCD screen, brain treatment, muscle response) adding 10 ms is not that much…
I’m surprised that you hear any difference with/without the display, as I didn’t hear any improvement.
Tried with XP/Vista/7? I can’t work with audio programs since the audio core modifications made by Vista…
I’m not an “Apple fan ’til death”, but Mac OS X solved 99% of my previous problems…
Do you have any links to modifiers explanations? I think I’ll try to make a copy of your TSI in HID, just to see if there’s any improvements…
I’m dissapointed to see that Denon/NI took so much time to start fixing all the problems with this controller…
Thank you!
What exactly do you mean by “make a copy of your TSI in HID” DJDreamland? I thought by utilizing the native associations which are built into Traktor everything was already utilizing HID where it was applicable (IE: Play instead of CC76).
Is J.J.’s current TSI even using the built-in HID protocols?? Now I’m all confused. O.o
tstille. DN-HC4500 4 Decks 20091208.tsi is using the built-in protocols with display support.
However, the old HC4500 4 Decks 20090417.tsi is not.
I will finish the new TSI using the new protocols. Then after that, I will recreate a new version using the old protocols (without display support) so we can have low latency ms again.
tstille:
JJ may correct me if I’m wrong, but HID is an evolution of MIDI.
Since 1.2.2 (or 1.2.3), Traktor is giving a kinda “native” support.
However, since JJ was working with the MIDI protocol (CC76), the software don’t convert the keys to HID protocol.
In other words, there’s no way that the HID will be working, because the name of the input are not the same at all.
I’ve done more testing with no display support TSI. You can use low latency ASIO with no display support. NI dropped the ball on display support for the HC4500. Unless you like 15ms latency.
The Parameter knob now works correctly when selecting tracks. While paused, the Play button LED now flashes. While Cued, the Cue button LED now stays on. Creating Cues is now now very easy and the LED’s work great.
• I need to figure out how to move a loop seamlessly 1 bar forward or backward.
• I’m planning to have the Effect buttons 1-3 toggle ON/OFF the effects. If you hold down the effect button (modifier 0) and move the Jog Wheel to effect the parameters, it will will keep the effect ON.
• I cannot scratch with the default NI Traktor inertia setting. When you hold down the jogwheel, it comes to a slow stop. When you release, it drags instead of playing imminently. I doubt this can be changed. I will look into it.
DN-HC4500 4 Decks 20100318 2010 = Year, 03 =Month, 17 = Day. This is a real zip file this time. You do not have to change the .zip extension. You have to be logged in to see the link in the original post at the top.
• Disabled the Red LED for the advanced effects.
• When switching to C or D deck by hitting the Playlist button, the LED’s for the Function buttons, Play button, Cue button and Tap button will disappear.
I’m working on TSI version without display support so we can have low latency again.
J.J. Great job!
I use 3700′s but the tsi on the denon forum doesn’t give me any display & hardly any lights work. So i decided to try yours out with the 37′s and I was suprised that so many functions worked, including the display & the platter! I would like to try adapt your tsi to suit the 3700, but it’s waaay different to the one from denon. Could you point me in the right direction?
ace, because the MIDI on the 3700 is very similar to the 4500, most of the MIDI commands will work. These buttons on the 3700 will probably not work because the 4500 doesn’t have them.
• Spinning Platter
• CLR1, CLR2, CLR3
• Auto Loop Set
• A Loop, B Loop
• A/B Trim
• Next Track
• CD, USB, MIDI
• Key Adjust
• Brake, Dump, Reverse
• Effect Knob
• FWD, Both
• Loop Trim buttons
• Echo Loop, Flanger, Filter
The 3700 has more buttons so it will make for a better MIDI controller. However, until Native Instruments offers native support for the platter, I will not create a TSI for the 3700.
J.J. In all honesty,
I think your tsi for the 4500 is a better choice to use on the 3700′s than anything else available for them. A lot of the buttons you listed do actually work. Spinning platter, Clr1,2&3, A&B Loop, Key Adj, Effect knob. I absolutely love the way you can switch from The traktor decks display to a full screen browser with the fwd/both toggle (genius!!)
Then there are a couple of buttons that just don’t do what the name says. Thats why I was thinking of trying to “play” a bit with your tsi, cause we could wait another year or more before NI gives native support. So, once again….great job!!
You are the man!
What do you mean the spinning platter works? When you hit Play, it spins but you cannot manipulate (scratch) with it.
If so, I accidentally forgot to delete the MIDI commands for the 3700 when I was testing it. OOPS.
Updated the .TSI again: DN-HC4500 4 Decks 20100320.zip
• A1 button = 8 Bar Loop (Changed from 4 bar)
• Flip + Title = Moves the loop 1 bar back (Changed from Auto Loop+Set 8 bar back)
• Flip + Cont = Moves the loop 1 bar forward (Changed from Auto Loop+Set 8 bar forward)
• Playlist = Toggles 2 Deck and 4 Deck Layout
JJ, is there a possibility, like in the previous versions to push on the time button, so i can see my playlist on full screen?
JJ, I just realized that I didn’t delete the 3700 tsi when I imported yours, you didnt forget to delete anything. That list you made is spot on…My bad!
@ COREMANS. Time = Temp Effect 1 Chain on while hold or Turns on Advanced Effect.
Flip+ Back = Toggles View Full Screen
Make sure to download the latest version. DN-HC4500 4 Decks 20100322.zip
Before you add it, make sure to delete any old MIDI TSI
Preferences/ Controller Manager/ Device Setup
Under Device choose Edit/ Delete
Flip + Playlist = Toggles Layout Select (C & D Deck) Under Layout Manager, I created 2 layouts; 2 Deck and 4 Deck layout. (Changed from Unload deck. I saw no reason to eject the track)
Hey JJ! just wanted to say that Denon has released the 2.10 ASIO driver for the HC4500, which is compatible with XP/Vista/Win7 in both versions (x32 and x64)
Thanks damon. I will update the info to show:
ASIO 2.10 For Windows 7 64-bit only:
http://www.denondj.com/assets/misc/DDJAsioDrv210.zip
• 2.1 is optimized for 8in/8out
• You need it in order to run 64-bit
• You need this version if you have a DN-X1600 or DN-X1700 mixer
ASIO 1.01 For Windows 7 32-bit (XP, Vista):
http://www.denondj.com/assets/misc/DDJAsioDrv101.zip
• 1.01 is optimized for 4in/4out
• Utilizes less audio channels = smaller buffer size setting is possible
Hello there,
I want to post a few things I discovered:
Until yesterday, I was only able to DJ properly with TP1.1.2, because of the display issue with the high latency. I found out 2 things:
- in OSX works just fine (traktor is messing with ASIO bandwidth or something)
- if you import your APRIL09 TSI into TP1.1.2, and then import these preferences from 1.2.5, you get everything working, including leds, but a black display, which makes the minimum latency fall again to 2-3ms
And I’ve got a question for you JJ:
Sometimes, when I hit “play”, the play button in the interface gets active, but the song won’t play, and the waveform won’t move. What moves actually is the Sync bar from one side to another, and it keeps doing that until you move the jogwheel…it can be very anoying when you wanted to launch a tune in a specific spot.
Other times, when you hit play, the waveform moves, but u can’t hear anything at all. And when you try to stop the song with CUE, it keeps marking cue points, and the tune doesn’t stop, very weird thing i gotta say. (you solve that one switching to another song or restarting Traktor, depending on how lucky you are)
Any ideas on that??
Thanks man, you make a great work
Damon,
It sound like you have to many Devices loaded. Go to Preferences, Controller Manager. Under Device Setup, select the device and go to Edit, Delete. I would delete every single device. After that, shutdown Traktor and restart your DN-HC4500.
Turn back on your DN-HC4500 and start Traktor. Load just 1 Device (1 .TSI Map). Setup your audio and Output Routing. Then shut down Traktor and restart it.
I am hard at work creating a TSI for the DN-HC4500 with no display support from the ground up. The LED’s work fairly well. You can once again use low latency 2ms. Everything is working great. I’m almost finished with the left side (Deck A and C). I will update the PDF once I’m done and include both TSI and PDF in 1 zip file. A video will follow.
Here are the Pros and Cons of No Display Support
Cons
• No display support (although Traktor display support is the worst in the Industry)
• Very difficult to MAP VS Traktor Native Support
• Mapping the LED’s are 10X harder to create VS Traktor Native support
• Can’t get Grid and Loops to light up the function keys. Hot Cues light up just fine.
Pros
• No Display support (The constant Title scroll is annoying. Just look at your screen for Artist, Title and Time Remaining)
• LOW LATENCY ASIO (No more Garbled sound when loading an FX or a 3rd deck)
• Everything just works fast (real-time)
• Play/Pause button LED now FLASHES when a track is Paused (Can’t do this in Native Support)
• Cue button LED stays ON when a track is Cued (Can’t do this in Native Support)
• If you switch layers to Deck C or D, you won’t be confused because the display will only show Deck A&B
When do you post these new tsi file?
I am hard at work… = when I finish with it.
No timetable. My wife is 9 months pregnant and we are about to have our first child soon. It could take a while. I’m planning by late next week but I make no promises. Sorry.
http://www.denondj.com/DN-HC4500-P81.aspx#
For no display support (and low latency), I’m almost done with the left side for Deck A and Deck C. I just need the FX.
• Range + Pitch Slider = Key Adj (Internal Mixer)
• Range + Jog Disc = Filter (Internal Mixer)
• Range + Pitch Bend – = Decrease Pitch Range
• Range + Pitch Bend + = Increase Pitch Range
• Range + Parameter Knob Turn = Move Loop 1 Bar
• Flip + Title = Moves Loop 1 Bar to the Left
• Flip + Cont/Single= Moves Loop 1 Bar to the Right
• Function Keys LED’s only light up with Hot Cues. Not with Grid or Loops
• I figured out how to get things on the display to work. However, it only works for things like REMAIN, ELAPSED, CONT., SINGLE, BPM, MP3, WAV, KB, KEY ADJ. NOTE etc. I still don’t know how display the numbers, pitch or bpm amount, or text scrolling.
• I figured out how to do reverse, but there are many problems if not undone correctly so I removed this feature. (Toggle Modifier 5 M5-0 to M5-1 to Play button while M3-7 Back. While holding back button, Play to Toggle Tempo (Stepless) -1 to 1.)
Here it is:
http://www.poweronplay.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/04/HC4500-4-Decks-no-display-20100415.zip
Hey JJ, does this mean that this TSI doesn’t control the FX at all? Haven’t been able to give it a try (I will when I go back home)
Thank you mate! u rock!
The DN-HC4500 4 Decks 20100322 has full EFX and display support. However, you have to raise your audio latency just to run Traktor smooth.
HC4500 4 Decks no display 20100415 is almost finished. This has no display support but you can use low latency. I will finish assigning the effects this weekend and start on the right side (Deck B & D) after that.
