Use the latest HC4500 Software update and the latest ASIO. If you have Windows 7 64-bit, use Denon DJ ASIO 2.1. Otherwise, use ASIO 1.01.
Firmware SYS 1006 (August 2009)

- Create a user account here: http://www.denondj.com/denon-dj-Club.aspxYou will need the serial number of your HC handy.
- When completed, download the v1006 firmware (.zip) to a folder.
- Go to that folder and unzip the file.
- Install the updator application for PC or MAC and launch it.
- Connect DN-HC4500 to computer by USB cable.
- Push and hold these two keys and power up > [Back + Source] on the DN-HC4500.
- Drag and drop only the v1006.bin file into the Denon updator application.
- Hit load in the app.
- Hit execute in the app.
- Wait till the display says complete (about 10-sec).
- Power the DN-HC4500 down and your done.

Ok so here it is. I DJ’d all night, appro* 4 hours. Only real hiccup I seen was when selecting a track from a playlist with the parameter knob and selecting it (pushing down), it goes back to the first track in the playlist when i go to load another track into the next deck with the parameter knob (pushing down). Other than that, it works perfectly. I used the tsi file HC4500 4 Decks no display 20100428. Works perfect other than that glitch.

Pushing down the PM Knob (like Flip, Pitch/Key) is actually a modifier. When you push down and turn, it should skip around 10 tracks.
Does this happen every time, or do you think you pushed the PM Knob down and turned counter clockwise at the same time?

I would like to see how you program your stuff. At the moment, I have a old .tsi (your 4 decks) that I modified. The scrolling is bad on this one (skips 3th or 4th track) but is very good for me.
If I load your new one, I need to change it all over.

Download the latest TSI and look at the mapping. Then download the PDF to see what everything does. I fixed the scrolling so it doesn’t skip every 3rd track. The newer Traktor Pro has made a lot of changes to MIDI since I did that very old TSI. Please upgrade!

It can get very complicated. What were you trying to add to the mapper?
Actually I didn’t get that playlist glitch tonight. Don’t know what it was on Thursday night but tonight I dj’d the whole night and it went smooth as butter. Had my wifi on, Bluetooth on, browsing web pages, chatting on iChat. I used the tsi without display. Worked like a charm. Thanks again
I played yesterday a n evening with 4 decks with display, with no problems. I used a soundcard from Maya EX7, but had latency problems. gad to set de driver on slow. I’ve tried to play with the tsi file with no display, but with this tsi file I can not load a song with the PM button. When i push nothing is happening. Do someone have this problem as well. I play with Windows XP.
I’m using a macbook pro, and traktor 1.2.4. With the no display TSI, both decks read “Audio Through” and I can’t load any tracks. Any ideas?

@musicbym: why no upgrade to traktor 1.2.6 with the lastest display TSI from J.J? I’ve used it last saturday whole night for the first time and it worked perfectly with my macbook pro unibody 15 inch / OSX 10.6.3!!!

‘im missing one little item. Not that important, but having the ‘brake’ button effect working again like it used to be with VDJ that i’ve been using the last years, would be great.
@musicbym, i have the same problem using Windows XP, everything is working, lights, scrolling the playlist, ….. but i can’t load a track, i’ve got the latset update from Traktor.

I got a Rane 68 mixer. It doesn’t currently have any ASIO drivers for Ableton Live or NI Traktor Pro. I started testing the no display TSI. Here is what I fixed.
• FX Unit 2 Effect 1. Fixed button >> to Increase FX select (It was set to Decrease)
• FX Unit 4 Effect 3. Fixed button >> to Increase FX select (It was set to Decrease)
Here are some of the things I will be adding.
• Range + Function Key = Hot Start Cue on hold only
• PM Knob Press Hold + Function Key 1 = No Effects for all
• PM Knob Press Hold + Function Key 2 = Loads 3 default effects and amounts
—–Effect 1 = Turntable FX (Brake Mode)
—–Effect 2 = Reverse Gain (Censor, Temp Reverse)
—–Effect 3 = BeatSlicer
• PM Knob Press Hold + Function Key 3 = Loads 3 default effects and amounts

It loads tracks when you hit the PM knob select. Are you guys talking about the Display Support TSI?

I’ve been using the NO DISPLAY tsi and it works just fine, just a few things for debugging if you felt like:
- You start with the cursor in Track Collection / Playlists / etc (the first level). Theoreticaly, when you press the parameter knob you should get into playlists and then navigate within them, but i does nothing, it stays there.
- When doing stutter with cue, and you realise you did want to play the song you can press play before you release cue button, and it keeps playing (the way it’s supposed to), but in this mode, the green led in PLAY won’t light up; it’s a stupid detail, just wanted you to know, i can live with that lol

- I started in Track Collection because I used to use the PM Knob press for more functions. I’m always having to hit the Back button as soon as Traktor Pro starts. Great suggestion. I will change it so it defaults to the Playlists.
- Are you talking about the PLAY button not lighting at all after you released the Cue Button? This is how it should work: When holding down the Cue, the Cue led will be red. When you hit Play, the Play led should be green. I will look into this.
I loaded the tsi with the import finction of Traktor en it did not work, all the buttons are working, lights, effects, but you can not get a song in one of the players. In both players there is a text “audio trough”. I’ve put my X1 controller on ik with the HC4500 and your tsi file and if i hit the cue button, it also lights up on the X1 controller, but i can not load a track with the X1 as well. So i’ve tried something else, i run the program, first install the file for the X1 and i got no message anymore in the players “audio trough”, i can do anything with the X1, now i loaded the tsi file for the Denon ……… and everything is working, even with the Denon and your tsi. Don’t ask my how, i think the problem is “audio trough”, if you get this on your screen of your players on the laptop, you can’t load a song, not with the HC4500 en not with the X1. But if i import your file first, i always get “audio trough”. I don’t now why.

I’ll tell you one thing, this is the most stable release yet by far (HC4500 4 Decks no display 20100428). Not one hiccup. I mean i’m not using the effects per say (maybe a delay once in a while to change from a fast track to a slower track and visa versa). But really, J.J. nailed it. 3 full 5 hour gigs and it’s be outstanding. I have another 3 parties coming up and I know I rely on J.J.’s tsi file to do the job.
It’s a mystery how you guys are having all these problems. For one, most of the issues you guys are having can be answered on the http://www.native-instruments.com forum. Because the audio-through setting can be changed very easily. SEE THE ARROW UNDERNEATH THE LETTER A OR LETTER B ON THE DECK? PRESS THAT BUTTON (THE DOWN ARROW) AND GET IF OFF INTERNAL PLAYBACK. CMON NOW. Read the forums. This forum is about the tsi file. It’s not about troubleshooting your Traktor. That’s what the native instruments forums are for.

the HC4500 has a build in sound card. No need for a audio 8 or 4 soundcard.
Nothing more to do then connecting your denon HC4500 with your mac by usb cable.

Macbok Pro 2.4ghz (non-Unibody), 4gb ram, 1tb internal stripe raided 2x500gb drives, 10.6.3 snow leopard, traktor scratch pro 1.2.6, audio 8 sound card with 1ms latency using the DN-D4500 and the HC4500 4 Decks no display 20100428. I make a ton of money djing, not going to settle for anything less.
I know that’s what I’m doing not using audio 8 but my hc4500 freezes it still let’s me work with the keyboared and mouse but the hc45500 freezes the play avd cue still light on when I use the keyboared but no buttons work on it

i’ve just checked the traktor settings.
these one just work:
audio setup > audio device > Denon 4500
output routing > external > output channel A & B/ L+R > 1,2,3,4.
This works like a charm with the imported .tsi fie from J.J.
I guess there is something wrong with your denon if he freezes…
All working well on my mac now. Just a question, with no display TSI my function key buttons do not display my hotcues. Is this normal?
Which tsi should I use, does the no display work better????
Correction, only the load cues do not light up but I thought they did in the past…

@djyan, you have to figure out if your denon is working correctly itself. JJ’s display .tsi file is definitely not the problem.
Dowload the free Virtual ( DJ http://www.virtualdj.com/download/trial.html ) version en make that work with you denon 4500 as a double check.
‘ive been using VDJ for a year with my denon HC4500. No problem at all.
I’m able to switch between VDJ, traktor and serato (i have the SL3).
My denon works with the three of them perfect, including display support.
If your denon freezes as well with VDJ you now where to look…
JJ, about the play button led, i’ll try to explain the point:
You can use CUE as a stutter, right? When it is playing, if you realise you did want to keep the song playing, if you keep CUE pressed and without releasing it you press play, the tune will keep going when you release both buttons. This is the situation where the green play led stays off.

i can’t agree more with @musicbyman.
Only reason why I use an Audio 8 Native Instruments sound card is because I want to use 4 channels in Traktor Scratch Pro. I have Technics 1200 Turntables and also I have the Denon HC4500. Mobile gigs I use the 4500 only because I’m not lugging my turntables around with me. The Audio 8 has 1ms latency without any issues.
I was using the Denon 4500 when I first got Traktor Pro. I wanted to expand my decks by having 4 decks and plus I wanted to use my turntables at home because i’m old school. Don’t get me wrong, the sound card in the 4500 is pretty damn good, I was using it for months before I upgraded.
thx for the info. For a moment i thougt controlling 4 traktor decks with one HD4500 and JJ’s ’4 Decks no display 20100514 .tsi’ file was possible in one way or another.
You could run all 4 decks in MONO on the HC4500. I personally hate MONO though. I also have 2 DN-S3700 that I’m able to use as sound cards. The latency is crap and the drivers are awful. If you have the money, invest into the Audio 8.
If you have another sound card, you could use ASIO4ALL and see if Traktor will recognize more than 1 sound card.

thx for replying. I hate MONO as well. I have a usb gigaport AG soundcard too. but ASIO4ALL is only for windows, i’m a Mac user.
Well, i forget using 4 decks with my HC4500. I have a Mac mini conected with the gigaport AG to my mixer in case of emergency. In that way i have a 3th & 4th deck.

Hey guys ive been complaining that my hc4500 is freezing for 2 months and its getting worse, today i download Virtual dj demo btw its noting compared to traktor i cant believe i was using that for 1 year, It still freezes on Virtual dj, I Just purchased a Referb Mac from Macs web site 2 months ago, and the hc4500 bought from a friend, i cant test it on another computer because i dropped my wifes laptop and my desktops mother bored fried so im stuck with the mac and im losttt. Is there any way i can check my mac if its having problems with the usb log having crashing problems

I want to mod your .tsi: only deck a & b used. No effects. The hc4500 should help me spin timecode vinyl.
I want the eject knobs to calibrate my timecode vinyl (a = left, b = right)
memo= set + store cue, range= type of que point (grid, cue, intro…)
effect1 = play internal — I want to see play, cue cup button effect 2 = relative mode effect 3 = absolute.
And is there a cure for this: I play timecode vinyl, touch the jog dial and the sound messes up. I would likethe jog to be off while I’m not internal mode. I will donate MORE then I just did.

Correct djyan. Only Hot Cues light up. NI would have to add Loops, Grid and Fade Cues to the output. No effects yet for the display support.

Thanks JJ, well i changed my usb and took out my fader cables and Ive been on it 10 min noting yet its all good loooollll i hope that was the problem…..With unemployment benefits gone i need to have a stable midi and i hope this is it, I just cant wait till we have the tsi with display and effects, on the display support all the cue lights light up and its greattt besides the effects. JJ is there a brake on traktor im new to Traktor and i cant seem to find it in effects??????

The effect is Called Turntable FX.
• PM Knob Press Hold + Function Key 1 = Loads 3 default effects

Notes to get the platter going on the DN-S3700…
cc 102 only starts & stops the platter (127=on; 0=off)
cc103 = platter fwd & rev (127=rev; 0=fwd)
cc104 = platter speed up (0 – 100 %) cc105 = platter speed down (0 – 70%)
pitch slider range (in traktor) = -16.0000 to 16.0000
Basically negative will be -16.0000 to -0.000001 Positive = 0.00000 to 16.00000
Assign 2 outputs for your pitch slide (tempo) 1 to cc105 for pitch up & another 1 to cc104 for pitch down.
U MUST use “blend” for it to work.
Oops – slider range is -1.0000 to 1.0000, but u get the idea.
Play button to rotate the platter
• Add In… = Play/Pause = Ch01.Note.G4, Type of Controller = Button, Interaction Mode = Toggle
• Add Out… = Ch01.CC.102, Type of Controller = LED, Interaction Mode = Output, Controller Range 0(Min), 1 (Max), Midi Range= 0 (Min), 127 (Max) No Blend
Pitch Range Fader to adjust Tempo and Platter Speed
• Add In… = Ch01.PitchBend, Type of Controller = Fader/Knob, Interaction Mode = Direct, Invert Checked
• Add Out… = Ch01.CC.104, Type of Controller = LED, Interaction Mode = Output, Controller Range 0.000001(Min), 1.000000 (Max), Midi Range= 0 (Min), 16 (Max) Blend Checked
Everything works fine from here. The Pitch Fader works great from 0% increased to around 10%. When the Pitch Slider goes beyond the middle to the negative, the pitch stays at 0%.
However, when I add the last MIDI to go from 0% to -10%, it fights each other and the audio wobbles for about 2 seconds. It happens when I decrease or increase the pitch.
• Add Out… = Ch01.CC.105, Type of Controller = LED, Interaction Mode = Output, Controller Range -1.000000(Min), -0.000001 (Max), Midi Range= 16 (Min), 0 (Max) Blend Checked
I can only get 1 of them to work at 1 time. CC.105 to decrease the platter speed or CC.104 to increase the platter speed.
I’m intent to buy the DNS 3700, if you can get it working like the hc4500 does it would be great! I’m also thinking to sell my Rodec mixer en to get the DNX1600.
I’ve got at the moment no problems at all with the tsi file for the HC4500, it works great!

I hear NI Traktor is working on adding Native Support for the 3700. I also believe the “*** Something BIG is coming for all S3700 Owners *** ” comment is a free lite (LT) version of Traktor to all 3700 users with an option to upgrade.
I’ve been able to get it to work and the platter control is dead on. In fact, it’s to good… Let me explain. Like an analog Turntable (before digital) it responds exactly like an inconsistent Turntable would sound like. The MIDI follows the platter and not the Tempo. So instead of locking the pitch at 4.2%, it will drift from 4.1% to 4.3%. Not terribly bad, but not as precise as we’ve come to expect from Traktror.

hello every one.
just got a denon dn-hc 4500 and i’m using VDJ version 5.0. on a windows 7 and asio driver version 1.01. When I connect the controller to the PC it displays a message saying its PC connected but I cant do nothing else because if I touch any button on the controller it blinks a red light that says ”Link” and besides the PC light on nothing else is displayed.
is there anything I’m missing ???

you might search on ‘HC 4500′.
DJ.HSena, shouldn’t you be using the latest VDJ v6.1. They’ve added better audio, MIDI assignable, new skin engine, a lot of controller support, and bug fixes.
Make sure you have the latest Firmware SYS 1006 (August 2009) for the DN-HC4500 and the latest ASIO (both links found above in original post).
VDJ 5 will not work correctly with the latest SYS 1006 firmware, you have to download the full version.

I got VDJ v6.1 but still cant get the player to communicate with the software. When I go config-> mapper it does not show me the 4500 icon like I’ve seen in some tutorials
JJ, i bought a Denon mixer DNX 1600 en ordered 2 DNS 3700, does your tsi file for the hc4500 work for these players as wel in Traktor?
I’ve got also Virtuals Dj, i saw on the internet on there forum that the platters are spinning with this software.
COREMANS, I answered this for ace back on 3/19/10. Because the MIDI on the 3700 is very similar to the 4500, most of the MIDI commands will work. These buttons on the 3700 will probably not work because the 4500 doesn’t have them.

The 3700 has more buttons so it will make for a better MIDI controller.
From my post on 6/16/10, I’ve been able to successfully get spinning platter to work on the DN-S3700. It’s not as precise as I would like it though.

NI did say on record that they do not know which update will address platter support, but it is coming (Traktor on record sessions) I know they want a couple of motorized platter controllers under their belt.
A firmware update from denon using NI’s language might be a possibility.
Maybe when Denon says something big is coming it could feature a number of upgrades instead of just one.

The Hot Start/Looping section had 3 things connected to the parameter button/knob. Deleted and Added:
• [Flip] + [Title] = Moves Loop 1 Bar Backward
• [Cont./Single] = Multiply Loop by 2
• [Flip] + [Cont./Single] = Moves Loop 1 Bar Forward

I started work on the DN-S3700. Only the Play/Pause, Platter, Tempo Increase Only and Pitch Bend buttons work.

JJ, i’ve tried this tsi file, but my dns 3700 don’t react, no lights, nothing at all.
I import your file, but it doesen’t work. I set the dns 3700 on midi, maybe i’m doing something wrong. With virtual dj they work fine, but i prefer Traktor becaus i,ve got also an x1 controller.
It’s for Deck A only.
Go to Preferences, Controller Manager, Device Setup, Add, Import
Then under Device, select Denon DN-S3700 and set the In and Out Ports to the DN-S3700. I believe I had my 3700 to MIDI ALL Unit 1 (hold MEMO to get to 3700 settings). I had my DN-HC4500 plugged in and loaded with a separate TSI and it worked.
You have to manually drag a track to Deck A. Hit Play on the 3700 and let me know if it works.
